If you know of any other ways to dispose of it while making a few dollars, please let me know.īe aware that 6 years is a very long time for most, not all R3000. I might try Craigslist, but I hate taking the risk of dealing face-to-face with strangers. I think it's unlikely someone would pay that much for shipping of a broken printer. However, it looks like it will cost about $60 to ship it. I was thinking of selling my R3000 on eBay as "for parts or repair". I have friends with R2400s that seem to be lasting forever. I did get 6 years of use out of the R3000, but I do hope the P600 lasts longer. But I have enough of an investment in Epson media and knowledge that I held my nose, used a lot of bad words, and went with Epson again.Īt least when I do a Google search for "Epson P600 no black" I don't get any hits, unlike the many hits I see when I do the same search for R3000. Part of me wanted to switch to Canon or any other printer that didn't share an ink nozzle with two different inks. I admitted defeat and ordered a new P600. I only switched it to MK in attempt to diagnose the problem. So it's hard to blame it on the PK/MK switch valve. So right now for the time being it stays on MK permanently! You blank nozzles block a d when you switch back to MK it takes about three cleanings to bring it back. I also have R3000 that can not switch to PK. I know three R3000 users with the same problem and well let's make that four. What doesn't make sense to me is that the failure occurred with the printer set to PK, after changing the PK cartridge.Īctually it makes perfect sense as that is the black pretty much always fails to flow when the valve itself fails. Just to be clear, I DO get a good nozzle check with MK (after several cleaning cycles) but no black ink at all on PK with 2 different cartridges. You switched to MK and still seem not to be getting a good nozzle check with the MK selected, so that sort of rules out air in the PK line, but still could have air in the damper, and/or print head.
If anyone else has any other ideas, please let me know. So at this point I think I may need a new printer. After 3 more cleaning cycles (and changing 3 other cartridges that were drained by the cleaning), still no 8th square on nozzle check. So I got a brand new PK cartridge and installed it. Since my problems started when I changed the original PK cartridge, I thought maybe the replacement was defective. After 3 cleaning cycles there was no black - the nozzle check only printed 7 squares. Now that I had MK working, I switched back to PK and tried again. My understanding is that this means the line from the black cartridge to the print head was drained and needed to be refilled. I did 3 head cleaning cycles with MK selected, and on the 3rd cycle most of the 8th pattern appeared. That's when I made my original post claiming that the nozzle check was OK, when in fact it was missing the 8th square. I switched to MK ink and still no black was printing. My problems started when I replaced the PK cartridge after it was empty. Any suggestions to troubleshoot would be appreciated, thanks! I tried power cycling the printer (by unplugging it), and using its reset function, which didn't help. The printer gets only occasional use, and some of my ink cartridges are a couple of years old, but the PK cartridge is brand new. The crazy thing is, when I do a nozzle check, it comes out 100% clean. For example, the black camera bodies on the "Latest Reviews" box on the DPR forum pages print dark blue.
So I know it's not a problem on my Mac.īlack only text prints light, and colors containing black print incorrect. I even see it on the reports printed by the printers own maintenance functions. It happens when printing from Lightroom with a printer profile, and from any program when the printer manages colors. This happens with both PK and MK ink, on plain paper, and on Epson Ultra Premium Glossy (with PK) and Epson Premium Presentation matte. After working flawlessly for a few years, my R3000 is acting up.
